With the Emmy Awards bringing in the TV awards season each year, we get to experience the magic of the red carpet, our favourite stars, acceptance speeches and much more after a long hiatus. 

15 Most Award Winning TV Shows of All Time

We take a look at the most awarded TV shows of all time- including Emmys, Golden Globes and others. Here’s the list:

1. Game of Thrones – 291 wins

Most fans of the show will not be surprised to see the fantasy drama at the top of the awards list. The star cast including Peter Dinklage, Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke earn accolades for their stellar performances in addition to the surreal special effects. 

2. The Simpsons – 168 wins

One of the longest running TV shows ever, animated series The Simpsons follows the adventures of Homer Simpson, loving husband, father and blue collar American employee.

3. ER – 154 wins

The medical drama show “ER” might come as a surprise to many, in spite of it being one of the highest-rated TV series of all time. The whopping 331 episodes of ER were first aired in 1994. 

4. Breaking Bad – 147 wins

The five seasons of AMC’s Breaking Bad had the world following the life of chemistry teacher turned drug lord Walter White played by Bryan Cranston. For anyone who missed out on this epic thriller of a show, you can catch it on Netflix.

5. Mad Men – 135 wins

The Jon Hamm, John Slattery, Elizabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks starrer was set in the 60’s at a New York advertising agency. It’s seven seasons can now be enjoyed on Netflix.

6. Frasier – 130 wins

The show followed the adventures of Frasier Crane, played by Kelsey Grammer, a psychiatrist turned radio personality. The show is witty, funny and full of memorable lines.

7. The West Wing – 120 wins

NBC’s critically acclaimed political wass aired between 1999 and 2006. Fans can relieve the drama of this Aaron Sorkin masterpiece on Netflix. 

8. The Sopranos – 118 wins

One of those Godfather-like series which followed the life of Tony Soprano, who was constantly trying to balance his personal life and criminal enterprise. The show was widely regarded as one of the best series ever made. 

9. Modern Family – 117 wins

One of the most popular “mockumentary” series aired for 11 seasons and was hugely popular with both kids and adults globally.

10. The X-Files – 96 wins

The Fox Network’s Sci-Fi drama aired from 1993-2002 and is the scariest show on this list. The Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny starrer enthralled audiences for 10 seasons. 

11. Will and Grace – 93 wins

Starring Eric McCormack as Will and Debra Messing as Grace, the show won many accolades including American Comedy Awards and GLAAD Media Awards.  

12. 30 Rock – 86 wins

Tina Fey’s satirical TV series which starred Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and Fey herself was filmed in New York and ran successfully for seven seasons.

13. NYPD Blue – 86 wins

ABC’s popular police drama series ran from 1993-2005 and followed detectives in their pursuit of criminals in New York City. 

14. Cheers – 77 wins

NBC’s clever sitcom “Cheers” aired from 1982-1993, spanning 11 seasons and 275 episodes. GQ Magazine declared Cheers to be “the best TV show that’s ever been”.

15. 24 – 70 wins

The show starred Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, who was a counter terrorist. 24’s popularity cannot be questioned as it spawned 24:Legacy, 24:Redemption and 24:Live Another Day versions.
